As if getting Apex Legends to work on mobile wasn't enough of a reason for fans to double-dip on the franchise, the portable version offers up a completely new and unique Legend you likely won't ever see in the HD versions. If you want him at launch, you'll need to know how to unlock Fade in Apex Legends Mobile. He's free, but the menus make it tricky.
Already, it seems as if Apex Legends Mobile is looking at other mobile games for inspiration when it comes to distributing new characters. With Fade likely seen as a hook for series veterans to try out the handheld version, they've made sure to trap him behind a unique unlock method.
Before we get stuck in, consider cramming your browser with a few other guide tabs. Just in time for launch, we've covered topics like how to get 60fps in Apex Legends Mobile, the difference in the Apex Legends Mobile FPS settings, and even how the Apex Legends Mobile weapon tier list looks right now.
How Do I Unlock Fade in Apex Legends Mobile?
You'll be glad to know that you can unlock Fade for free in Apex Legends Mobile. At launch, at least. There's a good chance that will change after the game's honeymoon period is over, but if you get in early, you'll be able to play around with the game's first exclusive hero without dropping a penny.
Unlocking Fade for free in Apex Legends Mobile means collecting ten Fade Pieces - little tokens you can eventually exchange for the character. Once you have enough, either use them from your inventory or through the Legend screen to unlock him permanently.
How Do I Get More Fade Pieces in Apex Legends Mobile?
Given you need ten Fade pieces to unlock the new character, you'll need to jump through a couple of hoops to get them.
For the most part, Fade pieces come from the battle pass. And don't worry: they're not in the Premium pass tier. You'll get two pieces at level one. You won't get any more until level nine, but you'll start to get a healthy amount after that.
Once you reach level 25 of the Season One battle pass, you'll collect your final two Fade pieces, meaning you only have to hit level 25 on the battle pass to unlock the brand-new character.
To do that, just focus on completing the various weekly missions. You can even use a few Task Cards to skip any harder ones and boost yourself.
That should be everything covered regarding how to unlock Fade in Apex Legends Mobile for now. There's every chance the method will change in the global release - or more ways could be added. We'll update with any additional details at launch. For now, though, read up on how to play Apex Legends Mobile on PC if you feel like mouse and keyboard is still the way to go.
