Apex Legends kicks off Season 12: Defiance next week, bringing a new legend with Mad Maggie. However, that may not be all Respawn Entertainment has planned, as they've now hinted the battle royale's new-gen port for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is finally close to launch, following a recent leak.
During a media preview event, Apex Legends’ game director Steven Ferreira mentioned this next-gen update would come “very, very soon.” This may go beyond standard resolution and framerate upgrades, as Ferreira also hinted that'll bring additional new features, though we don't yet know what these are.

Apex Legends Arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S “Very, Very Soon”
Elaborating further, Ferreira hinted that these new-gen upgrades will gradually roll out, as opposed to implementing them all at once. At the least, we'd speculate this'll include 120 FPS gameplay and ray tracing, but it'd be hard to predict beyond that.
If Ferrerira's word isn't enough to sway players, the PS5 version of Apex Legends was recently rated by the ESRB. This means that the next-gen version of Apex Legends should be coming sooner or later, not just for PS5 but also for Xbox Series X.
Apex Legends fans can already play the PS4 and Xbox One versions on PS5 and Xbox Series X thanks to backwards compatibility, without additional enhancements. It's also available on Nintendo Switch and PC, and we'll keep you informed when we hear more.
