Considering how Battlefield 2042 is solely a multiplayer shooter, fans are expecting a really big player count and they are getting that on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, though those getting the game on PS4 and Xbox One won’t be getting the same love.

How Many Players Will Battlefield 2042 Support?
On PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, Battlefield 2042 houses 128 players, making the shooter really feel like a giant battlefield, pun fully intended.
EA and developer Ripple Effect confirmed that AI bots are taking the places of players if certain games don’t fill the required quota, but also promised fans that they won’t even notice the difference.
There’s also talk of cross-play between next-gen consoles and PC but the developers have stated that it’s still being worked on, so we might not see it at launch.
PS4 and Xbox One players might be disappointed to know that Battlefield 2042 only has 64 players for this generation of consoles, though that’s still a decent enough number.
It’s clear that next-gen consoles are what EA and Ripple Effect are focusing on. Hopefully, with future patches, we'll be able to see the game run better than it has lately.
