Leaks and rumours surrounding the launches of Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 have circulated within the community for several weeks. Despite a lot of attention focusing on the launch of Season 2 for Vanguard, Activision has officially confirmed the next instalments of the popular shooter franchise.
The news comes following a call between the publisher, Infinity Ward, Raven Software, and a number of prominent content creators.
Within the meeting, Infinity Ward confirmed that it is leading development of Modern Warfare II alongside an all-new Warzone experience described as a "massive evolution of battle royale."
Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 Confirmed
The blog post published on February 11 highlighted numerous fixes arriving to the current iteration of Warzone that's about to enter its second season of post-launch content having moved from Verdansk to the Pacific island of Caldera.
Underneath all of the fixes, Activision teased future plans of the franchise, confirming Modern Warfare II is a sequel to 2019's hugely successful Modern Warfare reboot in addition to a "new Warzone experience designed from the ground up."

During the call, developers revealed that Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 will use a brand-new engine ensuring integrations are much smoother than they are with the current iteration. Infinity Ward's Pat Kelley revealed there's "a lot in" the new game that includes a new sandbox mode heavily rumoured to feature similarities to Escape from Tarkov.

The release dates for both titles weren't confirmed but current rumours are pointing towards an October release following disappointing sales of Vanguard.
