Subscription services are becoming a more common feature within the gaming industry. The likes of Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto have their own services that provide players with a range of exclusive items and in-game benefits.
Before the release of Warzone and Vanguard, Activision attempted to launch a similar product. Known as Call of Duty Elite, the service allowed players to get their hands on DLC for free.
If a recent job listing is anything to go by, it appears the publisher is attempting to revive the idea, mentioning "CoD 2.0" and "subscription-based content."
Call of Duty Subscription Service
A now-deleted job listing on Activision's career page showcased a position for a new influencer and talent marketing manager. In addition to various parts of the job, the description mentioned the following:
"2022 is a stellar opportunity for Call of Duty, with an extraordinary lineup of innvations in curated player experiences, multi-platform gameplay, subscription-based content, mobile games development, and a move to always-on community and player connectivity."
Will Call of Duty Have A Subscription Service?
At the time of writing (March 29) Activision hasn't mentioned any kind of subscription service arriving in the Call of Duty franchise. Numerous leaks claim one is in the works but until one is officially out in the open, take everything with a pinch of salt.
A subscription containing an annual release and all six seasonal Battle Passes may appeal to some members of the community. It'll be interesting to see what Activision has in store in the coming months.
