Former developers from Bethesda, BioWare, and Naughty Dog have teamed up to create what could be the most anticipated survival crafting RPG. It's something similar yet so contrasting from games that they've developed in their former studios. Hawthorn, the Redwall-inspired video game lets players control different critters such as mice, weasels, owls, and many others.

NEARStudios, the developer of Hawthorn, comprises developers from League of Legends, Mass Effect, and Fallout. With vast amounts of experience in the gaming industry, NEARStudios aims to provide a charming gameplay experience similar to the old fairytales and adventure stories from the 80s and 90s.

Fans of the book series Redfall are excited and hopeful to see a game that features anthropomorphic animals similar to the characters of the book series. In a Reddit post, Redfall fans say that they look forward to playing Hawthrone because of its theme and book inspiration. While it may not be a direct retelling of the book series, Hawthorn will let players experience slice-of-life and community-building gameplay within the game's Windermere Valley.

Gamers who also love to read are also in for a treat should famous children and young adult books arrive on current-gen consoles. Titles such as Chronicles of Narnia, Eragon, and The Neverending Story are a few classic books that could go very well should video game developers translate them into modern video games. NEOWiz and Round 8 Studio did a great job in creating the Pinocchio-inspired soulslike Lies Of P, and a sequel starring Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz is teased at the end of the game.

While many recent video games stem from remakes of the retro originals, classic children's books can also become a great source of inspiration. Tales of Robin Hood, The Little Prince, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, and many similar titles seem to have great potential as video games. Not only these will cater to book fans, but also to gamers who are looking to have something nostalgic and fascinating.

Hawthorn does not have a fixed release date yet nor the prospective platforms it'll be available to, but its Steam page is already up and running and players can add the game to their wishlist.
