Dogecoin has fast become one of the most discussed cryptocurrencies, but does Amazon accept DOGE?

Since Dogecoin started trading, the 'memecoin' has now grown to reach a market cap of over $27 billion. It reached a peak price of $0.7376 in early May 2021.

So, if you've amassed a significant amount of DOGE and are now wanting to spend it, here's what you need to know.

Does Amazon Accept Dogecoin?

As of February 2022, Amazon does not currently accept Dogecoin as a payment method. The e-commerce giant has yet to integrate any cryptocurrencies into its payment system, meaning users will still need to use fiat money for their purchases.

In late July 2021, following a job listing by Amazon, rumours flared over Amazon possibly accepting cryptocurrency. An insider speaking to City AM claimed that the company would accept bitcoin by the end of 2021, followed by Ethereum, Cardano, Bitcoin Cash and "eight of the most popular cryptocurrencies."

While measuring popularity is a subjective task, we'd expect Dogecoin features in the top eight currencies following Ethereum, Cardano, Bitcoin Cash and bitcoin. It is currently ranked at number 7 by CoinMarketCap - above Bitcoin Cash.

However, this date may be further away than first thought, if it ever arrives. Following these claims, Amazon released a statement denying it had plans to accept cryptocurrency anytime soon.

A petition to get Amazon to accept Dogecoin entitled 'Doge4Amazon' has currently received over 239,000 signatures.

Who Accepts Dogecoin as Payment?

While Amazon may not accept Dogecoin, a select number of places do take the memecoin as payment.

One of the most high-profile places to spend Dogecoin is on merchandise and tickets for the Dallas Mavericks. Mark Cuban, a prominent investor in cryptocurrency, owns the Mavericks basketball team and began to accept Dogecoin in March 2021.

If you fancy launching a rocket, Elon Musk's Space-X also accepts Dogecoin as a payment, with a 2022 moon mission funded by DOGE. However, the Dogefather's other company, Tesla, does not accept Dogecoin.

A few online storefronts such as AllGamer, MyNerdLife, and MMOGA also accept DOGE.
