SHIB holders will soon have a chance to contribute towards Shibarium Layer-2 after a hackathon was announced for the Shiba Inu project.

Posting on the ShibaSwap blog on May 10, Shytoshi Kusama revealed details about this next stage for Shibarium, while also providing a slight update on the L2.

As the most anticipated project on the Shiba Inu roadmap, let’s take a look at the latest on Shibarium.

Shibarium Hackathon To Fund Shiba Projects

With the hype for Shibarium continuing to build as its release gets closer, it seems one final push through the Shibarium Hackathon will help streamline the project’s release.

Shytoshi provided a short sentence about what the hackathon will do for the Layer 2. He said it will “help educate the community on Shibarium and reward teams with funds to build on Shibarium.”

According to the SHIB project lead, this will happen in the sufficiently vague time window of “weeks to months”.

Hackathons tend to be short sprints in which developers create new pieces of software within this period of time. At the end of the event, judges then pick a winning project. The victors are often rewarded with a sum to go forward and continue on the project. In Shiba Inu’s case, this could see SHIB holders build projects for Shibarium in this window.

This could help the Layer-2 have additional Shiba Inu products and services running on its platform for when it launches.

Shytoshi noted that many in the community are already thinking about projects on Shibarium. “We’ve seen many community members, ERC-20 tokens, and a handful of scammers and fudders (always DYOR) begin concepts for Shibarium,” he said. “This is the way to a decentralised future and the best way to grow SHIB the token.”

Given the decentralisation emphasis, it could be that community votes - possibly through the Doggy DAO - decide which projects get funded. This is merely speculation, however.

It seems the Shibarium hackathon will also be an opportunity for the community to learn more about how the L2 works. YouTube videos and tweets continue to confuse Shibarium with a blockchain and a new Shiba Inu token. It appears the Shiba team is keen to educate the community on what the L2 actually is to avoid any further confusion or worries.

While he refused to give any hard dates, Shytoshi re-affirmed the L2 is “nearing completion”. In April, the project lead said Shibarium is coming “very soon”, so it doesn’t seem too far off.
