Shiba Inu has plans to launch its own Shiba Inu metaverse project known as SHIB: The Metaverse.

While initial speculation linked the metaverse to the Shiba Inu Games, we now know SHIB: The Metaverse is its own project entirely. It features virtual real estate - Shiba Inu Lands - which will provide users with a passive income, too.

Here's what we know so far.

What is SHIB: The Metaverse?

SHIB: The Metaverse is the Shiba Inu ecosystem's own metaverse space, described by developer Eric M as "a place where our community, tokens, game, ShibaSwap and way more is going to meet together."

Hosted on SHIB.io It will feature 100,595 plots of land that will be made available to purchase. These will all be placed on the metaverse map, lined with streets with Shiba-related names.

The metaverse land will also contribute towards the SHIB burn, using a renaming process similar to the Shiboshi NFT burns.

Shiboshi NFT holders will have an exclusive area of the metaverse, known as the Shiboshi Zone.

Shiba Metaverse Release Date

We don't have any specific release dates for the Shiba Inu metaverse project. However, it will likely launch in 2022, as stated in the official announcement tweet.

It also now seems like the Shiba Inu metaverse is set to enter its next phase, after several announcements relating to new team members.

The Shiba Inu Land sale remains ongoing, having raised over $20 million. As of June 8, 19,473 pieces of land have sold in the metaverse, out of the initial 32,000.

We'll keep this page updated when new information comes to light.

Shiba Inu Metaverse Announcement

The Shiba Inu metaverse was first announced in late January 2021. According to the official SHIB account, the Shiberse will be: "An immersive experience for our ecosystem and the Metaverse space."

The tweet included an image of a Shiba Inu dog holding a hammer in its mouth in a jungle. This may have been a reference to the now-confirmed Shiba Inu Lands - the virtual real estate that Shiba users can buy in the future.

After the announcement, some Shiba Inu holders questioned whether the name was the best choice. "I think ShibaVerse probably would have been a better name though," one user said.

However, Shiba project lead Shytoshi Kusama said Shiberse is "not [the] final name" of the project, citing scams as the reason."

Other metaverses are being built by people like Facebook, Walmart etc. So we are playing with the big boys," he added on the Shiba Discord. "What makes ours special is you and the ecosystem."

Indeed, as we now know, the name is instead SHIB: The Metaverse.

The team has recently hired a former Netflix employee Brandie Konopasek to lead its metaversal project proceedings ahead, In addition to this, The team has also unveiled a new rocket pond concept art for the metaverse which is dubbed as a hidden resort for the community to enjoy in a virtual setting. Earlier the Shib team had shared a glimpse of their WAGMI temple concept art featuring a zen-like temple with unique elements and color compositions.
