Cyberpunk 2077 VR: Will Virtual Reality Be Used In Night City?

The release of Cyberpunk 2077 was a little bumpy, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming a fan favorite and one that many would love to experience in VR.

With VR mods now commonplace on even some of the most high profile games around, can we expect our wishes to become a reality?

Here's everything we know so far.

VR In Cyberpunk 2077

The idea of VR in Cyberpunk 2077 has been thrown around for some time, and t turns out that CD Projekt Red has been experimenting with the idea of implementing VR into the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

In an interview with onMSFT, the producer John Mamais from CDPR told the outlet that as much as they would like to do something with VR, "it's not viable yet."

Allegedly the platform is very "experimental and niche", meaning that it isn't a great fit for the hotly-anticipated RPG.

Mamais continued:

“We tried. We were thinking about VR but, yeah, we’re not doing anything with VR”.

But all is not lost as it was recently announced that a Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod is slated for release in January 2022.

The mod comes courtesy of Luke Ross, the person behind the mods for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Ross claims that "If nothing goes wrong, I'd say it should come out in January,"

The mod is said to take advantage of the Oculus Quest 2's head tracking but will be controlled via a gamepad much in the same way as the two previous mods.

We don't have any official word of pricing as of yet, but if it's anything like before, you'll have to sign up to Ross' Patreon to gain access.

What's Next For Cyberpunk 2077?

Fans of the game will be wondering just what's next for Cyberpunk 2077 in the way of expansions and extra content...especially if they can be played in VR.

In the previously mentioned interview, there appears that there could be some glimmer of hope that Cyberpunk will get the same treatment as The Witcher...

When asked if this could be the case, Mamais said: "I wish I could talk about it more because, for us, it’s very interesting. But we can’t."

Clearly, his hands were tied by the PR department at CD Projekt Red HQ.

However, Mamais hinted that "it'll probably be something like The Witcher", which could mean we see new maps, content, and characters...potentially even experienced in VR.

We'll have to wait to hear more, but we're certainly excited to see where Cyberpunk 2077 is going.
