More information is starting to circulate about the cancelled Days Gone sequel, and it’s apparent that Sony has no plans to release a sequel to the black sheep of the PlayStation exclusives, despite the game having a solid fanbase. Days Gone director Jeff Ross outlined what we would have seen in a possible sequel and it sounds like Bend had high ambitions for it.
Speaking with USA Today, Ross said that a Days Gone sequel would have let them make the definitive edition of what they originally wanted, similar to how Uncharted 2 or Batman: Arkham improved on their predecessors in almost every way. Ross said a Days Gone 2 would have focused on Deacon St. John’s story, while also having a more lived-in open-world with more animals, the ability to swim (after the first game restricted swimming for story reasons), and more new features based on player feedback.

In regards to the tech that would have improved Days Gone 2, Ross said:
“I think we would have expanded the tone a little bit in a more technical direction, kind of like, ‘Alright, now we have all this NERO tech – what can we do with it?’ The tone would have expanded one ring outward towards some of the new reality. I think this would have been a little bit more – I don’t want to say Avengers, but something where the player had resources, he had some sort of the remnants of whatever the government had.”
Numerous updates have enhanced the Days Gone experience for many. The most substantial patch was enabling a 60fps option for PS5, making that the definitive way to play Days Gone, especially since it’s part of the PlayStation Plus Collection.
