Before capturing the critters, you'll need to fish out some recording device pieces. However, things take an unexpected twist when you accidentally overhear a secret conversation between two of the valley’s villains, Scar and Ursula, suggesting they might be plotting something sneaky.
How to Start Curious About Critters Quest
To start the Curious About Critters quest, you need to meet certain requirements. First, increase your Friendship Level with Timon to at least 4. Additionally, make sure you've unlocked key characters like Buzz Lightyear, Mushu, The Beast, and The Forgotten before proceeding.
You will also need to ensure that you have progressed with characters including Merlin, Scrooge McDuck, and Anna. Once you have met this requirement, Timon will approach you with the idea of recording the critters in the valley.
Gather Fishing Components in the Forest of Valor
After having a conversation with Buzz Lightyear and Scrooge McDuck, you will find out that three pieces of an old recorder have dropped into the waters of the Forest of Valor. You will need to fish out these components from the water: Wet Batteries, Wet Electronic Parts, and the Rusted Recorder.

- A Colorful Reptile: You’ll need to photograph a crocodile for this one. Head over to The Glade of Trust, where crocodiles are commonly found. Be patient, as they can be sneaky.
- A Furry Omnivore: Snap a picture of a fox. These critters are usually found in Frosted Heights.
- A Dark-Colored Critter: This can be any black-colored critter, such as a black squirrel, rabbit, or sea turtle. Simply take a photo of any black critter you come across.

Timon will inform you that Scar and Mother Gothel have been seen heading toward the Vitalys Mines in the Sunlit Plateau. Your task is to follow them and take a photo of their meeting.
Upon arriving at the mines, you will be able to witness Scar and Mother Gothel having a conversation. However, instead of a sinister plot, you will discover an unexpected twist: Scar has decided to take up poetry. This revelation will probably add a humorous element to Timon’s documentary.
Host a Party
With the critter photos and the surprising twist about Scar’s poetic ambitions, Timon’s documentary is complete. The final step is to prepare for the premiere. For this task, you will need to gather 1,000 Star Coins to purchase a Giant Projector Screen from Scrooge McDuck. After buying the screen, place it anywhere in Dreamlight Valley.
After gathering for the documentary viewing, take a photo with the characters Timon has invited. Once everyone arrives, a short conversation between Scar and Timon will take place.
