Dying Light 2 Aiden using Paraglider

The world of Dying Light 2 is huge, there are multiple areas and buildings for you to explore. With such a vast map to explore, it can become quite time-consuming to constantly use parkour to get around (despite how much fun it is). This is where a tool that you get a few hours into the game will come in handy.

Throughout the first section of the game, Aiden must find a way into the Central Loop. This tangles him in a dispute between the Peacekeepers and the Survivors. It is only after you play through this story section that you can find your way into the Central Loop. Soon after you do this, you meet a mysterious woman called Lawan. This is when you will gain access to some new abilities and learn more about the wider story of the game.

In this guide, we're going to show you how to get the paraglider, how to use it, and how to upgrade it.

How to Unlock the Paraglider

You will unlock the paraglider after you meet Lawan and you start the mission after all of the lights come on, then turn back off in the Downtown area. (This is shortly after you unlock fast travel). Lawan will then say that you need to go and check the substations. She will give you the paraglider then walk you through how to use it.

How to Use the Paraglider

Once you have the paraglider, there are two ways to start using it. However, using the paraglider will use up your stamina. If your stamina reaches zero, you will lose control of your flight and you'll probably crash. You can use vents on rooftops and around The City to boost your stamina again. All you have to do is glide through the stream of air they're producing to be boosted into the air and have your stamina recharged.

Launch From a High Area

To launch from a high area, jump off of the building or structure and press your appropriate control to open the glider. Then, use the movement control to pull the glider back and stabilise your flight. The movement controls for the glider are similar to walking around. You can choose to invert the flight controls in the options menu if you feel more comfortable.

Launch From a Vent

If you want to get somewhere higher or you have simply misjudged your landing, you can take off from a vent. To do this, stand directly on top of the vent and open the glider. It will boost you into the air and you can continue to use your normal flight controls. However, we do recommend gliding from high areas if you want to cover long distances.

Be mindful of wind gusts as they can knock you off course. You can use the wind to your advantage in some situations but in other situations, you may need to fly against it. To combat the wind, pull your glider back and adjust your direction to maintain control against the gusts.

How to Upgrade the Paraglider

To upgrade your Paraglider, you need to visit any of the Craftmaster stalls across the map. They're found in safe zones and large settlements like the Bazaar in Old Villedor. You can spot them on the map by looking for a symbol made of two tools. You'll need to collect rare materials and spend a lot of money to upgrade your Paraglider.

Your first upgrade will cost you:

  • x2 Military Tech (This is found in Military Air Drops)
  • 1000 Old World Money

Once you have the correct materials, speak to the Craftmaster. Select the "Upgrades" section and the Paraglider should be at the top (under the Nightrunner Tools section). Click on it and follow the prompted control to upgrade it. The upgrades will gradually become more expensive.

After you get the paraglider, getting around The City in Dying Light 2 becomes much easier. While you are working through the story, you will meet many enemies that you need to fight off.
