Dying Light 2 puts you into The City, which is one of the last remaining human settlements in a world where the Harran Virus dominates. The remaining survivors are engaged in conflict with each other and against the infected monsters threatening to overrun Villedor. In a brutal world where you have to fight for survival, anyone and anything can be an enemy.
In a similar fashion to the predecessor of this game, Dying Light, Parkour is a key part of getting around the map and of surviving in The City. Running across rooftops and pulling yourself up buildings to get to safety isn't your only option though. You can choose to engage in combat and fight your way out of trouble. As you progress through the game, you can choose how you want to progress in your parkour and combat skills.
We're going to show you a breakdown of the combat and parkour skill trees. Also, we're going to explain how you can earn skill points and increase your proficiency in each skill as well as offer some suggestions on the Best Skills to use.
Dying Light 2 Skill Tree Explained
Skill Trees are a way of developing Aiden's skill set in Dying Light 2. You'll level them up by gaining experience, before assigning Skill Points to unlock parts of each tree. There are two skill trees in the game, combat and parkour.
Combat Skill Tree
The Combat Skill tree has 24 individual skill options and 7 main branches to follow. You will only be able to get more skills if you meet the unlock requirements. No matter what you do, your first skill unlock will be this skill:
- Vault Kick: This skill allows you to jump over a staggered enemy and kick the next one. It's extremely useful when you are fighting groups of enemies.
After you unlock the skill, the next ones are up to you. However, each skill has a specific set of requirements that you must meet to be able to purchase that skill. For example, the requirements for the Windmill Skill are:
- x1 Skill Point
- Skill: Power Attack
- 160 Health
If you do not meet all of the requirements, the skill will remain locked.
- Defend yourself: Learn more about the in-game weapons and how to find them.
Parkour Skill Tree
The Parkour Skill Tree also appears to have 24 individual skill options and 6 main branches to follow. As with combat skills, you will only be able to unlock more skills if you meet the unlock requirements. However, no matter what you do, this will be the first parkour skill you unlock:
- High Jump: This skill allows you to jump higher and reach higher ledges.
Once you have unlocked this skill, you will be able to access the rest of the tree. You must remember that you can only unlock a new skill if you meet the unlock requirements. For example, you will need the following to unlock the Tic Tac skill:
- x1 Parkour Point
- Skill: Hight Jump
- 160 Stamina
The skill will remain locked until you meet all three requirements.
Best Skills
There are a handful of Skills that you will want to prioritise getting early on in Dying Light 2. The first is Slide, which will allow you to slide under objects. Not only does this allow you to get away from enemies faster, you'll be able to chain together moves to stay in motion. Next Up is the Headstomp ability. This lets you finish enemies that have been thrown to the ground. The Double Jump and Wallrunning skills really open up traversal, while being able to deflect incoming projectiles will make group fights a lot easier.
How to Earn Skill Points
Skill points are how you purchase new skills. Each skill tree has its own skill points and how you earn them will depend on which skill points you want to get. However, if you choose to explore at night and you survive the whole night, you will get a nighttime bonus. This rewards you with extra points towards increasing your proficiencies in each skill.
Combat
To earn combat skill points, you need to increase your combat proficiency. You can do this by fighting off various enemies and you get an extra boost if you use special moves like the Vault Kick.
The more that you improve your combat proficiency, the more the skill point icon (the fist near the combat skill tree) will fill up. Once this icon is filled, you will earn 1 skill point and level up in general combat. Your combat proficiency can be increased to level 25, which will give you 25 skill points to use and that is more than enough to get every combat skill.
Parkour
To earn parkour skill points, you need to increase your parkour proficiency. You can do this by doing basic parkour actions while moving around the map. This includes running, climbing, and jumping over simple objects. You will get an extra boost if you use some of the special parkour skills that you have unlocked, such as Tic Tac.
The more that you increase your parkour proficiency, the more the skill point icon (the winged shoe near the parkour skill tree) will fill up. When this is full, you will earn 1 skill point and level up in general parkour. Your parkour proficiency level can be increased to level 25, which will give you 25 skill points and that is enough to get every parkour skill in the tree.
Increasing your skills and unlocking new ones will make life in Villedor easier in Dying Light 2. We have an article that answers a popular question about the game, is it coming to Nintendo Switch?
