Elden Ring already looks like a strong contender for 2022’s Game of the Year. Mixing their signature Souls gameplay with a beautiful open-world, FromSoftware's admitted they're a bit worried about fans comparing Elden Ring to the Demon’s Souls PS5 remake.
During an interview with EDGE Magazine (via VGC), director Hidetaka Miyazaki said the following:
I’m pretty sure our graphics-creation staff felt […] pressure more than anyone else. Graphical fidelity is not something we put as the top priority. What we ask for on the graphics side depends on the systems and requirements of the game itself, and it takes less priority compared to the other elements of development.

Elaborating further, Miyazaki also confirmed:
This is always an area where I feel a little bit apologetic towards my graphics team because I know they work extremely hard. And they’ve worked extremely hard on Elden Ring – our graphics systems team and our programmers have been pushing a lot of new features to create the best-looking game we’ve ever made.
Such fan concerns aren't entirely unwarranted, given that Demon's Souls is a new-gen exclusive whilst Elden Ring is a cross-generation release. Evidently, FromSoftware is banking on gameplay stealing the show, though Miyazaki assured players that Elden Ring be, as evidenced in the previous Network Test.
Elden Ring launches on February 25, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, while Demon's Souls is out now exclusively on PS5. We'll keep you informed with further details as they come in.
