Anthony Mackie may be making his grand debut as Captain America this weekend, but Peacock knows him simply as John Doe the Milkman for their Twisted Metal series.
This year will see the arrival of the second season of Twisted Metal, and a new teaser has been dropped featuring a returning Mackie as well as co-star Stephanie Beatriz who plays Quiet.
Twisted Metal Season 2 Trailer
While the first season of the series had John driving across the country to acquire and deliver a package, the season ended with him being entered into a car derby called ‘Twisted Metal’. Check out the official trailer:
Series showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith (via Deadline) had this to say about the series: “The stakes couldn’t be higher as John and Quiet risk their lives to compete in the dangerous demolition derby tournament. The prize? A single wish, their greatest heart's desire, granted. The only problem is sixteen other drivers have wishes of their own. In a fast-paced, hysterical, thrilling season with unforgettable characters, it’s too bad not all of them will survive.”
Though the first season had brought in several characters from the games, it does look like Season 2 will at least have those same characters in the context of Twisted Metal in that they’re all in an arena trying to blow each other up.
Which Characters are Expected for the Second Season?
For the second season of the series, fans are expecting to see more of Dollface, who is revealed to be John’s long-lost sister. The preview also teases the arrival of Axel, one of the game’s more unique mascots.
While everyone else just has a car that they drive, Axel is literally a guy hooked up to two large wheels, and he rolls around the arena causing his own kind of chaos.
Though new faces are expected to appear, it would be great if Twisted Metal also managed to bring in some familiar faces from the first season. Maybe Raven can even get behind the wheel this time since she was originally a playable character in the games.
Critical Reception
While Twisted Metal wasn’t able to gain Fallout levels of hype, the series has been commended for its great action comedy and surprising faithfulness to the source material.
Besides the fun characters like Sweet Tooth, Anthony Mackie himself has been noted for having crazy levels of charisma for this show, and it’s his John Doe that people loved following across the wasteland as he delivered whatever was asked of him.
It’s kind of crazy that it’s him who’s also going to be playing Captain America for the next ten years, but Mackie definitely has the screen presence for it. Fingers are crossed though that he manages to work on this series and whatever Marvel is throwing at him for the next few years.
Twisted Metal Season 2 is expected to land on Peacock sometime this summer.
