New Line Cinema Announces Mortal Kombat 2 Movie

New Line Cinema announced Mortal Kombat 2, a film follow-up to 2021's Mortal Kombat movie, Deadline said in a new report. The film studio hired Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight) to write the sequel, though details on the storyline -- and even a potential release date -- remain sketchy at this point.

Slater's other recent credits include The Tommyknockers and Uprising.

Mortal Kombat 2 Release Date

New Line hasn't given any indication when Mortal Kombat 2 is set for release or even when shooting started. We'll update when we know more.

Mortal Kombat 2 Confirmed Actors

So far, New Line hasn't announced any actors, new or returning, so there's no way of knowing which classic characters will be making an appearance. Deadline said no other deals are locked in yet, so it's safe to assume the project is still in its early phases.

Will Mortal Kombat 2 Be Streaming?

The original Mortal Kombat film was released simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters in 2021, and Deadline called it the best-performing single release on HBO. While some theatrical releases are still going ahead as pre-pandemic usual, it seems unlikely HBO would pass up the opportunity to follow up on that success with Mortal Kombat 2. As with practically everything else connected to the project, though, it's still far too early to tell.
