Capcom's adjusting their upcoming tournaments, thanks to COVID-19. Advising they'll host the Capcom Cup VIII as an online season, they've outright cancelled the Street Fighter World Championship 2021 team battle.
Outlined through an official Tweet, Capcom's showrunners apologized for the heavy decision they had to drop on the premier tournament.
With rising cases of COVID-19 including the Omicron variant causing uncertainty and complications globally, Capcom once again finds itself in the difficult position of having to cancel CAPCOM CUP. The team did not come to this decision lightly, as we know what CAPCOM CUP means to the community and the players who trained so diligently to qualify.

Offering their "sincerest apologies," Capcom goes on to advise that they "share your frustrations" but are prioritising health and safety for everyone involved. Considering players would've flown in globally and the recent Omicron variant of COVID-19 outbreak, it's hard to argue this decision.
So far, we don't know when the upcoming Capcom Cup VIII online tournament will be held, and Capcom's asked fans to wait for more information. For now, we'll have to wait for more information about the next leg of the Capcom Cup, so look forward for the next one this year.
