GTA 6 Release: Dates, Map, News, Trailer, Cars

Honestly, not much is known. Rockstar is still silent. In April, a user on the GTA Forums posted a screenshot of an artist's resume who worked for Rockstar India. The artist listed his role as creating the vehicle art for GTA DLC and for GTA 6. Naturally it was widely reported on and if you go on his resume today then you will only see an empty space, no doubt at Rockstar’s behest. Rockstar expanded operations in India not long after in May when they acquired Dhruva Interactive, one of the largest art production and games studios on the sub-continent, for $7.9 million.

People want to know a few things; What's the release date? What era is it set in? What’s the location?

Speaking to MCV back in 2013, former president of Rockstar North, Leslie Benzies said “Where it is going to be set is the first question. That then defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in."

Era and Location?

GTA games have switched between three cities, Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City. This isn’t to say new cities won’t be introduced however, with some rumours floating about the next game being set in a fictional location based on London or as the latest leaks suggest, Rio De Janeiro.

Last week, we wrote about the leaks released by reddit user JackOLantern1982, who created a post detailing settings, plot and features. Developed under the codename, PROJECT AMERICAS, GTA 6 is said to be set in both Vice City and a new fictional location based on Rio de Janeiro. Liberty City will also make an appearance. Heavily inspired by Netflix’s cartel drama, Narcos, you play as an up and coming drug lord aspirant named “Ricardo”. You start off as a grunt doing drug runs from Vice City to the new fictional city and move up the ranks towards eventually building your own empire. It will discuss topics such as HIV, immigration and Fidel Castro.

The sources mentioned comes from two friends who work for Kotaku and PC Gamer as well as non-verbal “confirmation” from a friend at Rockstar. Unfortunately, both sites refute the claim. Jason Schreier, news editor at Kotaku replied to the post “Yeah this is fake” and Tom Senior of PCGamer wrote ““An anonymous Reddit post oddly cites one of our writers as a source (if we knew what GTA 6 was we'd tell you).”

Release Date

It comes to no one's surprise that GTA 6 is in development however I doubt Rockstar is in any rush. GTA 5 has sold over 110 million copies across all platforms and is still a global top seller on Steam despite having been released back in 2015. According to Inside Gaming’s source, we should expect a 2021-2022 release date. While we don’t know for sure, with Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped and released (a PC release is still in the works though), the worldwide Rockstar team can now shift their full attention on delivering another stellar game.
