Psyonix said this to explain how Gridiron will work:

It will be 4 on 4 and the traditional ball will be replaced with an American football.

When you touch the ball it will attach to the roof of your car, no matter where you touch it. If any subsequent player touches the ball, it moves to their car’s roof allowing for steals and passes!

The ball carrier can jump, but double jumping will drop the ball.

Scoring a goal is worth 7 points if the ball is attached to a player when entering the opponent’s goal. 3 points are awarded if the ball is loose or passed into the goal. Own-goals are worth 3 points to the opposing team.

Also, watch out for the pitch boundaries! You’ll fumble the ball if you go over the line marked on the arena walls!
