Looking to delve back into another Obsidian Entertainment RPG before the release of Pentiment later this year?
Well, if the bright lights of Fallout New Vegas are calling to you once more and you’re looking for ways to spice the game up that’ll make for a truly new and unique experience, you’re in luck.
You see, to add a little bit of urgency to your pursuit of Benny and eventual victory at the battle of Hoover Dam, a new mod deploys someone to chase you across the desert with the goal of crashing your game.
Get Ready to Be Hunted Down By Someone More Intimidating Than Ulysses
The mod that adds the intimidating new enemy is called ‘Avoid The Crash Man’ and is the work of modder KMFALLOUT, whose previous work includes making Fallout 3’s Dad a possible companion and changing his in-game name to that of voice actor Liam Neeson.
This time, they’ve created a mod that’ll have you crying out for your parents to come and save you, as a new NPC will be immediately dispatched to chase you down as soon as the game begins and won’t stop doing so until you beat it.
Affectionately dubbed ‘The Crash Man’, this fellow’s one mission in life is to get close to you and cause your game to crash, making him a formidable foe no matter how highly levelled you are or which weapons you have in your arsenal.
Starting off his journey in the northwest of the map, at Jacobstown, he’ll try to execute his goal with the kind of relentless spirit usually reserved for anime characters and real-life serial killers.
Naturally, your courier’s objective is to escape and evade him at every turn, utilising all of the tricks of a professional hide and seek player to make it through to the endgame unscathed, which will be no easy task.
If you fail to do so, don’t fret too much, as the crash man is flagged as essential, allowing you to temporarily disable him to put some distance between the two of you before giving your task another shot.
Who knows, maybe you’ll start treating his arrivals as welcome indications that you need to take a short break from chatting to Mr House or trying to bankrupt casinos, rather than barreling through the game all in one sitting.
So, thank Doc Mitchell, stroll out of Goodsprings, watch the horizon for the crash man, and make sure to follow us for coverage of the wacky worlds of Skyrim and Elden Ring modding.
