Why GTA 6 Fans Are Worried About Excessive Violence

GTA 6 will take video game graphics and open-world gameplay to the next level. The trailers have hinted at some gameplay, but nothing concrete has been shown thus far. Still, the game’s various activities look like they could be fun, and we can’t wait to see how it plays on a current-gen console.

However, there is some worry that GTA 6 will have excessive violence, some of which might be unnecessary. While the games have always been bloody, recent entries like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 have us wondering if they’ll push the limits of players. Stories about criminal organizations always end in a bloody way, and we expect the same thing here.

For the record, we have nothing against gorey games where heads explode and blood squirts everywhere. That has been around for a while now, and some games are just better with a lot of violence. Resident Evil 4 wouldn’t be as exhilarating without those head-decapitating shotguns, which are still satisfying to this day.

With all that being said, there are scenes in GTA 5 that might have been too violent, even for gamers used to 3D bloodshed. Many fans remember the uncomfortable torture sequence with Trevor, which was too much for some players. The character may have also sexually assaulted someone, but that was at least done offscreen, though the implications are still pretty awful.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was also criticized for some of the animal violence in the game. Going for realism, this open-world Western puts a ridiculous amount of detail into the skinning of animals. You see Arthur Morgan tear their fur, cut specific parts out, and eventually pack them in his bag.

Needless to say, we think GTA 6 doesn’t have to follow those up with even more gruesome scenes. Unfortunately, given how long this game has been in development, Rockstar will probably make this entry more violent than ever, especially if hunts are returning. They will want to keep this M-rated so most gamers will be able to buy it, but that doesn’t mean people’s buttons won’t be pushed.

Asking Rockstar Games to make the violence in GTA 6 more tasteful and subtle sounds counterintuitive, given the reputation of their projects. If anything, fans still want that violence alongside the American parody aspect. That doesn’t mean gamers aren’t worried about more brutal moments, especially if their stomach can’t take it, but they might have to suck it up.

The violence can’t be avoided, but maybe players can accept it if that signature GTA gameplay remains just as fun.
