It’s been years since Dragon Quest X: Offline was released in Japan, and fans worldwide are still waiting for an English release. An offline version of this long-running MMO seemed catered to Western fans who will never be able to play this game, so the fact that we don’t have it yet is nuts.
How long will fans wait for Dragon Quest X: Offline to come out on modern systems? We’re not going to act like translating a Japanese game is easy, but this game has been in Japan since 2022. At the time of writing, it’s been three years since that game’s release, and we don’t know if this version is ever coming out.
Revealed in 2021, this new version of the acclaimed MMO had fans excited. After all, they had just fallen in love with Dragon Quest 11, so having the tenth game as an offline title anyone can play is great. The fact that it was announced for modern systems like PS4 and Switch was another major reveal, meaning more people can play it.
After the game was released in Japan in 2023, fans thought it was only a matter of time before a port would come out everywhere else. Every time a Nintendo Direct was announced, players were hoping that this would be the one to have Dragon Quest X: Offline. But fans lost hope as more of these Directs came out and didn’t feature the game.
Now that it’s been two years, most Dragon Quest fans have given up on playing this specific version of the game. Sure, some people know Japanese and can import the game with no issue, but everyone else is just replaying older entries like Dragon Quest 8. That’s a real shame, because fans were really excited to play this game.
What makes the lack of Dragon Quest X: Offline more confusing is that there have been consistent releases of the series worldwide. The excellent Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake made waves last year, and the first two games are also getting the same treatment soon. Spin-offs like Dragon Quest Treasures and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince have also seen English releases.

The only thing fans know is that this game is in active development and has more mature themes, but that’s it. It does feel like that entry was released too early.
