Helldivers 2 is one of the most recognized third-person shooters of the modern video gaming era. One of the biggest reasons it is deemed as such is because the game has given its players many memorable experiences, whether they wanted them to happen or not.
Some would attribute that to the unpredictability of the Terminids, Automatons, and the Illuminate, and while they do play a role regarding that matter, there's another factor. It is called the multiplayer aspect, and with gameplay revolving almost entirely around it, one can imagine the potential chaos that can happen due to a party consisting of unique individuals.
However, it can easily be said that Helldivers 2 wouldn't be as fun and unforgettable as it is today if it didn't have that element of co-op madness and mayhem. People love the game because of it, but as for how it's handled in a way that makes it fun, it's through a couple of ways.

+ 3For one, it's with the existence of friendly fire. Normally, one would say such a thing would cause problems. While it still does in Helldivers 2, having it happen in the game is often more hilarious than it is troubling.
This is because the player base understands that they're all trying to help one another, but sometimes the occasional mistake occurs, which usually happens in the funniest ways. An example would be when one decides to use a stratagem, like an Orbital 380mm HE Barrage, on the enemy, only to drop it on the team instead.
Such an accident then leads to mass destruction, leading to everyone, both allies and enemies, scrambling for survival in a mass panic. Moments like that can happen at any time, and with the majority of players mostly being forgiving and understanding, Helldivers 2's co-op chaos due to friendly fire becomes an enjoyable time instead of something to dread.
click to enlarge + 3The other way in which the game handles its madness and mayhem to ensure that it's fun is through the randomness of the personalities of a potential squad. Playing the game with friends is already guaranteed to be a fun time, but it's when one decides to join an unknown team or allows theirs to be invaded by complete strangers that things get really interesting.
There are so many possibilities when joining any Helldiver's ship or having random people join yours. While it usually leads to an experience involving some of the best teammates who take every step of the mission seriously, there will be instances where things take a turn for the crazy. One might be plunged into a team full of roleplayers, where their objective is to have fun through any means necessary, even if it means failing objectives. Something like that can happen, which makes the thought of playing with random people exciting.
It's not all sunshine and rainbows, though, as there are still occasional experiences where players encounter others who try to annoy and ruin the fun for everyone. But one can also say that they play a part in the chaos that has made the game's co-op so memorable and beloved. Having encounters with them is something to look forward to as well.

So long as Arrowhead Game Studios realizes that as well and ensures that it doesn't change that aspect, then the game is guaranteed to have a long lifespan, as well as a devoted and loyal player base.
