LEGO Pokémon sets are officially coming out next year, giving fans the chance to build ‘em all. It will be interesting to see what these iconic creatures look like in brick form, though various toys and games have given us a solid indication.
While the 2026 brick sets will be interesting, many people are wondering how a LEGO Pokémon game would turn out.
Most fans associate the LEGO games with developer Traveller’s Tales, now known as TT Games. They created all those charming movie tie-in titles. Starting with the original LEGO Star Wars, these games became associated with family-friendly couch co-op games that coincide with movie releases.
It was recently announced that LEGO Games will release its games without third-party developers, but it hasn’t ditched any of them yet. Since the company wants to make its own games, expect an original game like LEGO City Undercover or LEGO Island to launch this new brand.
However, third-party devs aren’t off the table yet, and we’d like to see someone try making a LEGO Pokémon game.
The LEGO devs could try to make a Pokémon game more akin to their previous titles. One of their typical platformers would be fresh for this series since we never get direct control of these creatures outside of fighting games. Solving puzzles with the unique abilities of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, or Totodile would be very amusing.
A traditional RPG format for LEGO Pokémon would be amusing since there hasn’t been a LEGO RPG. Imagining a Pokémon adventure where all the special moves are done with LEGO bricks would be amazing. The game would need a ton of time in development, but we imagine that wait would be worth it.
Because the LEGO games are associated with adaptations, we wouldn’t mind if these acted as anime recaps. Fans nostalgic for the days of Ash Ketchum would love to see him, Brock, and Misty in LEGO form alongside their Pokémon pals. Mixing up the traditional LEGO platforming with turn-based Pokémon battles for this adaptation would be a lot of fun.
Now that fans of the series are getting older and wiser, The Pokémon Company is doing different things to try and appease everyone. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were decent open-world games that made the classic formula feel fresh. Legends: Arceus borrowed some mechanics from Monster Hunter, focusing on exploring, catching, and learning more about these critters. We imagine going the LEGO route wouldn’t be too surprising if they ever consider the idea.
No matter what form it takes, a LEGO Pokémon game would be neat. Well, as long as it's not a greedy mobile game…
