Ever wondered how the Emma Frost on your team already has a Lord icon? Realistically, they’ve either grinded it out in Quick Play or Competitive Modes—but considering the time and dedication it actually takes to hit Lord status on a Marvel Rivals hero, chances are, they’ve been “Lord Farming.”
Lord Farming has become a common exploit among Marvel Rivals players looking to fast-track their way to a hero’s coveted Lord icon. It all started when Doom Match, the game’s version of a Deathmatch mode, launched during Season 1. The mode offered a “no-risk, high-reward” environment—perfect for players to mess around and rack up Lord points without worrying about their rank.
For the uninitiated, “Lord” is a cosmetic prestige status in Marvel Rivals that shows how much time you’ve put into a specific hero. Think Mastery from League of Legends, but it’s just a change in your character’s Icon. Earning Lord status usually takes 20+ hours per hero, and with a roster of 38 heroes, that’s a serious time investment. Lord Farming, however, cuts that grind down to less than 10 hours. (Check out our guide on how to earn one.)
While all of this may sound harmless on paper, it becomes an issue in Ranked mode. A Lord icon doesn’t necessarily mean a player is good—it just means they’ve spent a lot of time on that hero. And when someone has been farming Lord points in Doom Matches without actually learning how to play the hero properly, it creates a false sense of skill. These players often engage in mundane activities in Quick Play or Doom Matches, focusing solely on grinding, not on winning or improving.
That’s where problems start to show up in Competitive. When you see someone with a Lord icon, you naturally assume they know what they’re doing. But more often than not, they’re just grinding for the icon—something that’s become a hot topic in the community, as seen in this Reddit post.
Lord Farming is a cheeky little exploit, and while it doesn’t reflect a player’s actual skill, it does act as a badge showing how much time they’ve sunk into a hero. In fact, some players have even started unequipping their Lord icons just to avoid being judged when they underperform.
Marvel Rivals Season 2 is now live, introducing Emma Frost as the latest Vanguard. She’s deadly and stylish in equal measure. Next up is Ultron, the game’s upcoming Strategist hero, set to launch on May 30.
