Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 kicks off this Friday, May 30th, and it brings a brand-new Strategist (Healer) who might just shake up the meta… sort of. Ultron joins the Marvel Rivals roster, ushering in the dreaded Age of Ultron, starting in the mutant-laden islands of Krakoa and Arakko.

However, early previews of his kit and gameplay footage have left many players underwhelmed. The consensus? He’s looking underpowered and, frankly, a bit disappointing.

What are Ultron’s Abilities?

Ultron’s core abilities include Imperative: Patch, Imperative: Firewall, Flight, and his Ultimate, Rage of Ultron. He plays like a utility hero, designed as a hybrid between a Duelist (DPS) and a Strategist (Healer). That means he doesn’t need to babysit his teammates with direct healing constantly; his Ultron bots can do the job instead.

With Imperative: Patch, Ultron sends a drone to heal nearby allies, functioning similarly to Zenyatta’s Healing Orb in Overwatch 2.

His secondary skill, Imperative: Firewall, enhances allied defenses within an area by granting overhealth and boosting the healing output of his drones.

His Ultimate, Rage of Ultron, brings an army of bots to the battlefield, blasting a designated area with both healing and damaging lasers. Think of it like Moira’s Ultimate, wide-ranging and dual-purpose.

Interestingly, Ultron’s team-up ability with Iron Man is arguably his strongest move. Unfortunately, it isn’t part of his core kit, which feels like a missed opportunity to add more utility.

Why is Ultron Underpowered?

Ultron's abilities fall short, primarily because his healing output doesn’t stack up against other Strategists in the game.

These concerns were amplified during a recent sponsored Marvel Rivals stream, where content creators got a hands-on experience. Many walked away disappointed, especially with how weak his healing numbers are. While his damage potential isn’t insignificant, it doesn’t compensate for the lackluster healing, particularly when compared to the rest of the Strategist lineup.

His healing is gradual, more like a Heal Over Time effect, similar to how Mantis heals, rather than a burst heal. And again, his powerful team-up move with Iron Man being excluded from his core abilities only makes things worse.

Are Ultron’s Abilities Disappointing?

Yes, at least for now. Other Strategists simply offer more value in most team compositions. Ultron could potentially serve as a third support, but doing so would sacrifice a crucial Duelist or Vanguard slot.

That said, players haven’t had enough time to explore his potential. Ultron appears to be a skill-dependent hero with a high skill ceiling. Once he officially launches on May 30th alongside the Balance Update, we may see players mastering his kit and unlocking strategies no one saw coming.

Who knows? Maybe Ultron will follow in Wolverine’s footsteps, starting off underwhelming but ending up unexpectedly overpowered.
