Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order was a pleasant surprise, not just because it brought back a fan-favorite game series but also because it was an enjoyable title in its own right. The comic art style was appreciated, and fans enjoyed beating up various villains as their favorite heroes, living up to this franchise’s name.
Nintendo and Team Ninja haven’t released any updates on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4, but fans hope this sequel is in the works. Considering how the game’s DLC epilogue ended in a cliffhanger, releasing a follow-up for Switch 2 would be brilliant.
Ultimate Alliance 3 was released at a time when Marvel Games was finally letting devs play with their complete toybox. Fans will remember when Marvel didn’t allow X-Men and Fantastic Four characters in their games until they bought 20th Century Fox. This made for a depressing era of Marvel games, with MvC Infinite, Marvel's Avengers, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 suffering from these restrictions.
Since Disney and Marvel won these characters back with the power of capitalism, we think Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4 is pretty likely. Thanks to its extensive roster from the comics and movies, the third game was considered a success, so a fourth seems likely. Because we’re heading to the Switch 2 generation soon, releasing that game for Nintendo’s newest system would make plenty of sense.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4 was essentially set up at the end of Ultimate Alliance 3’s DLC story. The player’s team of heroes realized that Dr. Doom was preparing for a big cosmic threat coming to Earth after the Infinity Gauntlet scuffle between Thanos and Thane. The series is known for cliffhangers that don’t get resolved – remember Galactus in the first Ultimate Alliance? We do hope a fourth entry resolves this storyline.
One reason the fourth game hasn’t been released yet is likely due to the new Switch coming. Nintendo advised Ubisoft to release their second Mario + Rabbids game on Switch 2, but the devs were confident in their project. Sadly, the game was considered a flop on release, proving that Nintendo was right, even though the sequel was better in almost every way.
While Ultimate Alliance 3 was well-received upon release, the game had many flaws. Difficulty spikes were constant, and the possessed Doctor Strange boss fight was a pain. Grinding was also annoying, and the messy ISO-8 system made things more complicated than they had to be. Team Ninja also forgot to give the Fantastic Four their DLC alternate colors, which is pretty annoying.
If we get Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4 on the Switch 2, fans won’t be asking for much. More heroes to use is pretty obvious, and having extra costumes to unlock would be great, too. The third game has a solid foundation to build on, and we hope they keep some of the popular aspects, like unlockable difficulties and the Rifts for extra grinding.
Also, add Luna Snow from Marvel Rivals. Keep her outfit too.
