The March 27 Nintendo Direct may have disappointed many fans. It did give us the reveal of a brand-new beat 'em up by Tribute Games, the team behind TMNT Shredder's Revenge: Marvel Cosmic Invasion.

Set for a Holiday 2025 release, Cosmic Invasion looks like a trip down memory lane when Marvel games dominated the arcade scene. In this game, villain Annihilus launches a galactic-scale attack on the universe, forcing Marvel heroes to spread out across different worlds.

You'll be able to play as Nova, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Phyla-Vell, Captain America, and a few more across multiple regions that go from the streets of New York all the way to the Negative Zone. Publisher Dotemu has confirmed there will be at least 15 playable characters.

Gameplay innovations spotted in the trailer include a mechanic called the Cosmic Swap tag-team system that will allow you to combo enemies like if you were in Marvel vs Capcom by switching between two playable characters during any stage. Of course, four-player co-op was also showcased, a staple of the genre.

Founded by former members of Ubisoft who previously worked on the beloved Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game, Tribute partnered with publisher Dotemu for Shredder's Revenge, becoming a fan-favorite couch co-op beat 'em up that had both the style and substance to stand above being a simple nostalgia bait title.
