Whether it’s Naughty Dog Co-President Neil Druckmann cryptically declaring that we haven’t seen anything yet or Geoff Keighley giving a possibly false account of his beverage preferences, some tweets from game companies and the people associated with them can catch you off guard.
This is especially true now that social media is readily used to share updates and teases about our favourite titles, meaning that every post by those behind them is generally subject to intense scrutiny and investigation from fans eager to learn all they can.
However, as Alan Wake fans have recently found out, sometimes the only thing to be gleaned is that you’ve been the victim of a harmless little prank.
Already revealed Alan Wake 2 gets revealed
Such a prank was at play recently, when Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment, creator of games like Control and Quantum Break, seemingly disclosed the coming arrival of an Alan Wake game they’d already announced.
Simply tweeting: “We are making Alan Wake 2.” earned the studio a hefty haul of likes, both from those in the know and those who’d been taken by surprise.
Studio Creative Director Sam Lake decided to get in on the fun too, replying to the tweet to ask: “Alan Wake 2 confirmed?”, to which Remedy responded: “Alan Wake 2 confirmed.”
While a couple of bamboozled users asked for a reveal trailer, only to be provided with the one from 2021’s Game Awards, some prospective players took the opportunity to ask for a glimpse at some gameplay from the title, with a couple speculating that the tweet’s arrival on the eve of Gamescom might suggest that such content might be shown off during the conference.
Others took the chance to make different requests, with user @Treycol12 declaring: “That's great and all, but I wanna see Control 2” and @caymanGTA asking: “Can you release Quantum Break and American nightmare to [the] PlayStation platform?”
On the other hand, some simply expressed how excited they are to play Alan Wake 2 whenever it finally arrives, which is currently set to be in 2023.
