The competitive Modern Warfare 2 season is in full swing. The Call of Duty League (CDL) is already heading towards the halfway point following the conclusion of CDL Major 2. Taking place in Boston, Massachusets, the second event of the season saw the best players in the world face off once again.
Major 2 is the last tournament before the highly-anticipated Season Two update that sees the arrival of ranked play and judging by the early Season Two patch notes, there are plenty of other changes to multiplayer on the horizon.
After four days of action, Atlanta FaZe emerged victorious following a hard-fought run through the winner’s bracket.
Atlanta FaZe up in Boston
The journey to the final wasn’t a straightforward one for the 2021 CDL champions. The hometown heroes of Boston Breach and Minnesota ROKKR took Atlanta’s hugely talented roster to game-five deciders in addition to a clinical sweep of Toronto Ultra, a team that headed into the weekend with the top seed.
Victory against Minnesota booked the FaZe’s place in the grand final where they would face off against defending CDL champions, the Los Angeles Thieves in a blockbuster showdown between two of the very best Modern Warfare 2 teams in the world.
The firepower of Atlanta was too strong for the Thieves, managing to win the final with a comfortable 4-2 scoreline. Alongside lifting the trophy, the squad took home $200,000 in prize money and 65 CDL points that put them at the top of the league table.
Atlanta’s win marks the second different winner in the Modern Warfare 2 season following the New York Subliners’ win at the first CDL Major of the year. All eyes now turn to the CDL Major 3 qualifiers beginning on February 17 before the teams jet off to Texas for the next event hosted by OpTic Texas.
