Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is coming out later this week but some players already have their hands on physical copies of the game. Normally, this would lead to a ton of leaks online, but that isn’t the case as fans have discovered a mandatory patch is needed just to play.
Fans on the Frontiers of Pandora subreddit who received their copies of the Ubisoft title early were surprised by what they saw when trying to put in the disc. Rather than getting the game ahead of everyone, players were greeted with the game’s title and official release date.
The user tried several methods to get Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora started, like changing the game’s release date, but nothing worked. Many now assume that the day one patch will be a mandatory one since this player isn’t able to start their game at all.
This has led to a mixed reaction from those who value physical media, as this means future gamers might not be able to play this. In the future, when Sony inevitably takes down the PlayStation 5’s online service, it might be impossible to play this game.
However, considering how often Ubisoft games get leaked, we can somewhat understand why Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was given this treatment. This game is also based on a James Cameron IP, so the developers might be working overtime to make sure nothing major gets spoiled. With Avatar movies making a comeback after the recent release of The Way of Water, this game’s story might be more important than we think.
It will be interesting to see the overall reception to Frontiers of Pandora once the game officially comes out. Curious fans can check out our review of the game now, where we think it’s a competent open-world title, albeit, one that plays like a lot of Ubisoft games.
