Since it emerged from early access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has surpassed a lot of expectations, having attracted a huge amount of players keen to experience all it has to offer on PC, with PlayStation and Xbox soon to follow.
Despite some debate around the “cut content” data miners believed they’d found in the game’s files, it’s enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive reception and has a modding scene that’s already in full swing.
Some players have even begun trying out all manner of bizarre speedruns and interesting challenges in order to spice up their playthroughs, with one having just put another entry into possibly the most bizarre series of boss kills you’re ever likely to encounter.
Have you managed to kill any of Baldur’s Gate 3’s bosses via cold hard cash?
Warning: Spoilers for the main story of Baldur’s Gate 3 may lie ahead.
Reddit user GoldenThane, whose wealth-based walloping of Ketheric Thorm and The Apostle of Myrkul we covered earlier this week, obviously felt that they hadn’t demonstrated the power of profit clearly enough in that exchange. So, they’ve now managed to dispatch a foe that’s arguably even tougher using the same money-centric methods.
As they did with Thorm, they’ve helpfully put together an in-depth breakdown, complete with step-by-step images showing the deed being done, of how they one-shotted this latest target, Raphael, and posted it to the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit.
In order to put down the part-devil, who naturally boasts a massive total of 666 health points, inside his own home, GoldenThane stealthily reverse-pickpocketed 50k gold into the boss’ inventory, before slamming him with a Twist of Fortune attack buffed by the ‘Blood Money’ ability.
Much like during their killing of Thorm, this combination caused an almighty explosion of energy, which GoldenThane attributes to the attack causing Raphael to “transcend from a devil into a being of pure capitalism” due to the Cull the Weak effect being applied “166 times at once.”
They also report having once again managed to successfully retrieve all of the cash they deposited from Raphael’s remains once they’d stopped smoking, meaning that, provided they haven’t had their fill, their capital-based culling of the game’s big baddies can continue.
Thankfully for those that might want to attempt a similar build, they’ve also revealed that the method they used to acquire the cash used to do the deed, saying: “Vendors restock cash when you level up. Then you reverse-reverse-pickpocket them.”
