Since it emerged from early access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has surpassed a lot of expectations, having attracted a huge amount of players keen to experience all it has to offer, as well as try out their own interesting speedruns and bizarre challenges.

Despite some debate around the “cut content” data miners believed they’d found in the game’s files, it’s enjoyed a positive reception, left a lot of people hungry for more, and has a modding scene that’s already in full swing.

In addition to regularly putting out fresh patches and for the game on PC, developer Larian has been working to bring it to other platforms and, while the PS5 version has now arrived, it looks like those on Xbox are going to have to wait a little longer for a concrete release date.

Are you looking forward to playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox?

In response to a fan on X asking when players can expect to get their hands on the version of the game for Microsoft consoles, Larian Studios’ Director of Publishing Michael Douse has asked for a bit of patience.

“[We’ve] got an idea in our collective heads, but [the] problem with communicating that now is that someone is gonna take it as gospel,” Douse tweeted, adding: “Word of mouth is a great thing, but within a week someone would be telling me we ‘promised’ it would be X,Y date. Leave it with us for now.”

The fan’s question was a reply to another tweet from Douse, which saw him highlight Digital Foundry having reported that the PS5 version of the game “appears to be running at the PC's ultra settings preset.”

“Now feels like a good time to say even better performance improvements are on the horizon,” said the developer, continuing: “The engineers working on this really had an impossible task, and I’m thrilled people think they nailed it.”

Larian’s Director of Publishing has also recently told Eurogamer that crossplay between PC and consoles is on the game’s roadmap.

The Xbox versions of Baldur’s Gate 3 have been the subject of some debate in recent months, with getting split-screen co-op to work on the Xbox Series S having been suggested as potentially delaying proceedings.

On August 24, Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke tweeted that, following a meeting with Xbox's Phil Spencer, “we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year.”

Vincke also revealed that the Xbox Series S version “will not feature split-screen [co-op],” leading to some discussion about the scope of Xbox’s policies regarding feature parity between the Series X and Series S.
