Now that it’s finally emerged from early access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already surpassed a lot of expectations, having attracted a huge amount of players keen to embark on the journey to its highest levels.

Despite some bizarre achievement issues and unhappiness over the endings on offer for one of its key characters, the general verdict on the game has been extremely positive.

While some players have already begun discussing what they’d like to see from any official DLC or expansions, modders are already hard at work making an array of useful additions and tweaks to BG3, with one having given you the means to play it from a fresh perspective.

Wish you had more control over how you see your adventures in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The mod in question is called ‘Native Camera Tweaks’, and is the work of modder Ershin. Some of their previous projects have completely overhauled Skyrim’s movement mechanics to bring them up to modern RPG standards, and brought a Fallout 4-style loot menu to Oblivion.

This time, in their first ever work for Baldur’s Gate 3 and with some help from shalzuth’s ‘BG3Cam’, they’ve created a plugin that unlocks the pitch, zoom, and controller stick deadzone settings of the game's camera.

With the mod installed, no matter whether you’re using a mouse and keyboard or have decided to hook up a controller, you’ll be able to customise how you view the action on the fly and “appreciate the game's graphics in a new way.”

Its in-game controls for changing the pitch and zoom are designed to be as seamless and intuitive as possible, and there’s even the option of editing a toml file if you want to customise the exact amount of change each input with your mouse or control stick will make.

There are seemingly plenty of interesting camera setups you can achieve with some playing around, from the now-commonplace third-person perspective situated directly behind the player character to more retro-style isometric angles.

If you’re a fan of Dragon Age: Origins, Ershin recommends teaming their mod with Ch4nKyy’s ‘WASD Character Movement’, with the two combining to transform BG3 into an experience that somewhat mirrors that game both aesthetically and gameplay-wise.

In order to get tweaking, however, you’ll first need to grab kassent’s ‘Native Mod Loader’, as it’s required to get things working as intended.
