Since it emerged from early access, Baldur’s Gate 3 has surpassed a lot of expectations, having attracted a huge amount of players keen to experience all it has to offer on PC, with PlayStation and Xbox soon to follow.
Despite some debate around the “cut content” dataminers believed they’d found in the game’s files, the game’s enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive reception, and its modding scene is already in full swing.
Some players have already begun trying out all manner of bizarre speedruns and interesting challenges in order to spice up their playthroughs, with one having just accomplished one of the most bizarre boss kills you’re ever likely to encounter.
Have you managed to down any of Baldur’s Gate 3’s bosses in an unorthodox manner?
Warning: Spoilers for the main story of Baldur’s Gate 3 may lie ahead.
The player in question, Reddit user GoldenThane, has shared an in-depth breakdown of how they managed to kill Ketheric Thorm, the big boss you encounter at the end of the game’s second act, via a post on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit.
As shown the five images, each of which shows an amusingly named step in their money-based method, GoldenThane downed the poor half-elf necromancer by “reverse-pickpocketing 15,000 gold onto his person and slamming him with the Twist of Fortune's special attack.”
They’ve even confirmed in a comment on the post that they were able to retrieve all of the cash they’d deposited into Thom’s inventory by looting the corpse of the Apostle of Myrkul, which he turns into in the fight's final phase, once the dust had settled.
“You just need to be fast enough to sneak in, put [the money] in his inventory, and misty step far enough away all in one turn,” GoldenThane explained, in response to another player asking how they managed to avoid being killed before they could do the deed.
They also added: “Many of you have asked what happens if you do [this] in the first battle on top of the tower. Unfortunately, you can't really - not without like triple the cash. Ketheric's armour reduces all incoming damage by 2, and the damage from each 300 gold is calculated separately; so he takes 1s instead of 3s.”
