Blue Protocol may just have the second chance it is looking for under a different name and developer. Once hailed as Bandai Namco's black sheep in terms of being an unsuccessful title, Blue Protocol will now be reincarnated as Star Resonance, developed by the Tencent-backed Chinese studio BOKURA.
Star Resonance features the same art style as well as its overworld. Set in Blue Protocol's world of Regnas, Star Resonance will focus on launching on PC and Android while offering cross-play.
The game is currently offering a closed beta registration for Chinese users from December 6, 2024, to December 19, 2024.
The closed beta test is scheduled to go live on December 23, just in time for a holiday gaming session.
Blue Protocol fans and interested players are expressing their interests and sentiments about their beloved title becoming a full-on gacha game. In a post on a gacha gaming subreddit, fans are concerned that Bandai's move to make Blue Protocol a gacha game could be part of a slow trend that makes gacha games the next-gen MMORPGs.

While the prospect of seeing Blue Protocol back in the gaming scene again pleases some fans, there are no announcements yet on whether Star Resonance will have a global launch.
However, Bandai Namco's move indicates that they still hope the IP will succeed, albeit with its bitter end on the West and Japanese servers.
Star Resonance's website showcases there will be six character classes available for players to choose from.
From close-ranged swordsmen to classes who prefer long-ranged fights such as mages and archers, there's a role for everyone in Star Resonance.
Gacha games have come a long way, and games like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves have started to become the pioneers of modern MMORPGs.
With availability on mobile and cross-play on PC, these modern MMOs can be played almost anywhere, anytime.
You can actually play non-stop throughout the day (switching between your devices) if you're dedicated to getting that specific gacha character or item you love, which roughly translates to the modern-day MMO grind.
