Activision officially announced that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will be taken down from the App Store and Google Play on May 18, 2025, ending its run a little more than a year after its global release in March 2024.

The publisher admitted the game failed to connect with mobile-first players as expected. The mobile version of Warzone never rose to the same level of success as its console and PC counterparts. In a statement shared across official channels, Activision explained that Warzone Mobile is being wound down due to unmet expectations.

The mobile version shared inventory and progression with the main Warzone and aimed for feature parity, but still failed to gain a lasting position in the competitive mobile shooter landscape. The main issues raised since launch have been technical limitations, lack of proper optimization, and device compatibility problems.

Users with even top-tier phones reported problems like choppy frame rates, slow loading, and annoying UI bugs. Many players compared Warzone Mobile unfavorably to Call of Duty: Mobile, which was developed by TiMi Studios under Tencent. Over the years, COD Mobile has built its success by creating mobile-friendly controls and expanding its content for mobile players.

Warzone Mobile came across more like a trimmed-down port than a game made for mobile. It needed stronger hardware, worked on fewer devices, and was tougher for casual players to pick up, so a lot ended up returning to COD Mobile or switching to games like Delta Force. The game also faltered because it didn’t manage to unify the Call of Duty ecosystem.

Unlike main COD titles, Warzone Mobile used a completely separate inventory and progress system. This divide confused players and pushed away those expecting smooth cross-platform play. For now, players who have Warzone Mobile installed can still access it.

Players will retain access to online matchmaking, shared progression, and existing content, but they will no longer be able to make purchases using real money. Call of Duty Points and Black Cell options are being removed from the store entirely. Past purchases and unspent currency are non-refundable.

Activision hopes to make the transition easier by guiding Warzone Mobile players toward Call of Duty: Mobile. They’ve offered incentives for players who link their accounts, including the ability to transfer and double any remaining COD Points for use in COD Mobile. We don’t yet know if this is the end of Activision’s mobile efforts or a chance to reboot.
