We all knew nostalgia was at an all-time high, but it looks like Chuck E. Cheese just realized that with their latest millennial-themed venture. This chain of restaurants normally aimed at kids is now going for older men with its brand-new Chuck’s Arcade line. In theory, this spinoff is still perfect for children, but with a focus on beer and Mortal Kombat, this is clearly for adults.
As covered by USA Today, this new chain of restaurants is hammering down that nostalgic feel and making it a selling point. In addition to older arcade machines with Mortal Kombat, they’re also bringing back older animatronics to capture that feeling of being a kid again. Granted, it’s that feeling with beer and Halo, but that’s kind of the point.
Like a lot of company’s during the pandemic, Chuck E. Cheese suffered major losses in 2020. At one point the company even filed for bankruptcy. But the company was able to recover two years ago, which is why they’re now reaching out with more bold ideas. This all led to Chuck’s Arcade, which doesn’t feel too bold in 2025, but will surely get the attention of nostalgic older gamers everywhere.
In order to differentiate Arcade from Cheese, these locations won’t have food for people to order. Rather than try and make the place more family-oriented, the focus on arcade games and merchandise is there to solidify the geeky adult nature of gamers. We still think it’s weird that there are animatronics, but that’s for adult nerds to deal with.
Still, it's hard to complain about new arcades with Mortal Kombat, Pac-Man, and Galaga.
