Destiny 2 fans were struck by the sudden and tragic passing of Lance Reddick back in March. Now, Bungie has announced a new Zavala voice actor who will take up the mantle - Keith David.

A beacon of positivity for the community, Lance was the iconic voice of Commander Zavala right from the franchise's inception, starting with the original Destiny in 2013. His last work could be heard during Season of the Deep, which is set to end on 22 August, the same day of the upcoming Destiny 2 The Final Shape showcase.

Starting with The Final Shape, Keith David will be taking over Zavala voice acting duties, as revealed by Bungie.

Lance Reddick's legacy lives on as Keith David takes over as Zavala

The legendary Keith David has been associated with Bungie for well over 20 years at this point. If you don't recognise his work, he's the man behind the Arbiter from the Halo franchise, playing a huge role in Halo 2 and 3 specifically.

In a small press release, Bungie confirmed that while Keith David will be the new voice of Commander Zavala they have no intention of replacing Lance Reddick's lines currently in the game, similar to how they did it with Peter Dinklage's work as the Ghost which was completely removed in favour of new lines recorded by Nolan North.

Keith Lee expressed to the Destiny 2 community that it was an honour to take over Commander Zavala duties during The Final Shape and beyond, and he's hoping he'll be able to fill in the shoes, but most importantly, pay homage to the legacy of Lance Reddick.

I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. Lance captured the character's sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work.

We hope Keith can bring Zavala to life in the way Reddick did and have no doubts that he'll be able to pull it off.
