The chances of Diablo 4 landing on the Nintendo Switch 2 are a lot more real.

Diablo’s executive producer, Rod Fergusson, recently dropped some key insights in a chat with Gamertag Radio that are sure to turn heads. In the interview, he admitted that bringing Diablo 4 to the upcoming Switch 2 is "something to look at," calling it an opportunity that hasn't been ruled out.

He didn't confirm anything outright, but his wording clearly implied it was on Blizzard's radar. Fergusson stated that the main challenge isn't the Switch 2's power, as it should be capable of running the game. The focus is really on the backend: ensuring that the live service systems run seamlessly on Nintendo's platform.

This concern makes sense, especially since Diablo 4 is an always-online game centered around seasonal content, live events, and ongoing backend support—areas that have historically been tough to manage on Nintendo consoles. The Switch 2 might be a powerhouse, but syncing Blizzard's infrastructure with Nintendo's online might still cause problems.

Even so, industry insiders think the port is already underway. Earlier this year, a well-known leaker with a strong track record (especially when it comes to Game Pass and cross-platform releases) claimed that Diablo 4 was in development for the Switch 2.

The report didn't reference any sources, though it fits with Microsoft's broader approach to expanding its ecosystem, such as adding more first-party games to other consoles. As rumors suggest, Halo and Flight Simulator could go in the same direction, and Diablo 4 aligns perfectly with this trend.

Fans are hopeful but reserved. If the game arrives on Switch 2, the expectation is that it will feature cross-progression, so players can seamlessly transition between PC, Xbox, and Switch without losing progress. Players of Diablo 3 had that benefit on previous consoles.

However, others are more skeptical, especially given Diablo 4's always-online requirement. Some worry that playing the game on Switch 2 might require a constant internet connection and a paid subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.

Offline support, like in Diablo 3's Switch port, would be a great addition, but it hasn't been confirmed. With backward compatibility, Diablo 2: Resurrected and Diablo 3 will be accessible on Switch 2, so Blizzard fans don't have to start from square one.

Bringing Diablo 4 on board would complete the trilogy and greatly enhance the RPG selection for Nintendo's next console. Nothing's official yet, but Fergusson's comments, credible leaks, and past support for Diablo on Switch hint that something's in the works.

If everything falls into place, Diablo 4 on Switch 2 could be one of the defining ports of the generation. For now, we wait—but it's definitely a wait with potential.
