It’s also worth noting that the statement confirms that Druckmann was responsible for directing and writing various episodes on both seasons. So even if he’s not completely responsible for the second season’s lower quality, Druckmann is partially at fault. Pedro Pascal, Joel’s live-action actor, even asked Druckmann if he knew what art is, which is hilarious in hindsight.
The Last of Us Part 2 was often criticized for being unrelentingly dark and depressing, though many respected it for going with that tone throughout. Druckmann may have been affected by these criticisms, which might be why he tried too hard to add lighter moments to the second season. Whatever the case, we’re interested in seeing what season 3 will be like and if he can bring narrative high points back to Intergalactic, whenever that comes out.
