The ESA has announced E3 2022 is cancelled. While the in-person show that was cancelled back in January, it was believed there'd be a digital event like last year. Sadly, the ESA made this official through a new statement.

“We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience.”
E3 2022 Is Cancelled, While Summer Game Fest Returns Once More
However, it's not all bad news for those looking for a Summer presentation. At the same time, Geoff Keighley confirmed Summer Game Fest is back this June. Many gamers remember how last year's event finally brought us a much-anticipated Elden Ring reveal, so we're hopeful for more big news.
Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest takes place this June, though no firm date has been revealed. The ESA claims that E3 will return next year in 2023, assuming that the pandemic doesn’t get any worse. We'll keep you updated on both as we hear more.
