Tekken 8 will be coming out in a few weeks, so it’s a good time for Bandai Namco to announce the game’s DLC characters. Classic fighter Eddy Gordo will be the first DLC character to join the roster but fans can’t get over his haircut, which has become overused in video games.
For the most part, it looks like Eddy is going to be the classic Capoeira fighter we all know and love, based on the trailer. Eddy will be launching sometime in the Spring, with three more characters coming this Summer, Autumn, and Winter, respectively.
However, it seems like none of that matters, as fans are trashing Eddy’s Tekken 8 look on social media. Based on the fan reaction, it’s not that the haircut in itself is bad, but the fact that this has become the default hairstyle for black characters in video games makes it feel lazy.
If the hair looks familiar to anyone, that’s because we’ve seen this hairdo in various video games already. Miles Morales has this hair in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and even designs a new costume that shows it off, for some reason. Ekko from League of Legends also dons this look and he isn’t even the most recent character to do so.
While fans are disappointed in his look, Eddy Gordo returning in Tekken 8 is a net positive, since he’s one of the franchise’s most iconic fighters. Eddy’s capoeira style lent itself to some fun button mashing, quickly becoming a favorite for newbies and veterans. Bandai Namco used the capoeira style for Christie Monteiro, who also became a favorite.
At the time of writing, we don’t know who else will be joining Eddy in the game’s DLC, though the company did sort of leak it not long ago. The company accidentally put a private video of Josie Rizal, with many assuming that she would pop up as DLC for the game.
