While they may not have any massive expansions to dig into quite yet, Elden Ring players are still keeping themselves busy, with the long-awaited Colosseum DLC providing a fresh challenge for many who now consider traditional boss battles to be old news.
That said, sometimes even the acts of butchering an endless supply of bloodthirsty fellow players or emulating streamer MissMikkaa’s run through the game on two devices at once can get stale if you’re using the same weapon you always end up going for.
This certainly seems to be the case for some players on Reddit, who’ve taken a break from discussing their own battle prospects in a duo boss battle to focus on a hypothetical fight between two of the souls series' most beloved figures.
Who do you think wins the war between FromSoftware’s sun praiser and moon howler?
Their clash-based conversation forms the subject of a thread on the Elden Ring subreddit, which was kicked off by a post from user MrEmorse, who shared images of both Blaidd and Dark Souls' Solaire of Astora and asked: “Who's winning this fight!?”
Many of the players in the thread seemed taken aback by the idea of the pair coming to blows, with user True-King-Of-Heroes lamenting: “If they did fight it really doesn't matter how it turns out. Whoever wins, we all lose. It's sad to see the bros fight one another.” and ihatefirealarmtests declaring: “No fight. Only friends.”
Others were willing to entertain the idea but found picking a victor tougher than they first thought, with user L_V_R_A musing: “I was gonna say Blaidd hands down, but then I remembered where we find Solaire. He at least made it past Sen’s Fortress and the silver knight archers to get to that bonfire in Anor Londo, and he most likely made it through Blighttown to get to the Demon Ruins. (The) dude is kind of a beast, in retrospect.”
User Fskn went ever further with their praise of daylight devotee, declaring: “He links the fire in his own world, he's stronger than a lot of player characters. I personally think he beats Blaidd because when you get solaires gear it's actually terrible stat wise, which means he did all that while dressed for drip.”
Meanwhile, user AGodNamedJordan made an interesting point that might tip the scales in Blaidd’s favour, saying: “I guess it comes down to which world has the stronger power scale.” and arguing that Dark Souls loses points for being a world at “the ending of an age”, while: “In Elden Ring all of the big bads are considered demigods with lineages that all stem from a giant space slug.”
