For those who love Elden Ring, having a frustrating time battling through bosses is all part of the fun, even if you might have to take the occasional break to tier-list some hats in order or fantasise about beating up an NPC in real life to avoid getting too angry.
For many Twitch streamers who count themselves among these ranks, standard playthroughs of the game are no longer tough enough to be a true challenge, leading some to invent unorthodox playing methods designed to spice things up a bit.
While this desire has already led to drawing pad and one-handed playthroughs, some players are discussing how they might fare while wearing a VR headset that blows up in real life if you die in a game.
How far could you get into Elden Ring without having your head blown skyward?
This important topic was the subject of a thread on the subreddit r/eldenring, which has since been removed, but began with a post from user Ok_Pepper_2340, who shared an article on Oculus founder Palmer Luckey’s latest project and asked: “How far are y’all making it in the Lands Between with this strapped to your head?”
Their fellow tarnished were quick to offer fairly realistic assessments of how their runs might go, with user Snoo61755 saying: “I’m walking off the ledge and saving myself the long, drawn out and inevitable result.” and DippyFreshon420 musing: “(I’d) probably get motion sick from all the rolling.”
On the other hand, some thought they might actually have a shot at making it a decent way through the Lands Between, with user Pure-Newspaper-6001 saying: “Maybe (I’d) get past Margit if my skills translated perfectly into (that) game.” and ArcIgnis adding that: “LetMeSoloHer would save lives.”
Meanwhile, user tacomonster92 seemingly had their run all planned out, saying: “If I avoid the bears, lobsters, dogs, and revenants then I’ve got a real shot at making it to Godfrey at most, because I'm skipping all the other (optional) levels and (stuff), and I'll have that defibrillator at the ready for the worst enemy of all: falling.”
Others simply commented on how similar the idea behind the headset is to the Japanese light novel series Sword Art Online, which is about a VR-based MMORPG that connects to players minds’ in very dystopian ways.
