Since they finally received the massive DLC announcement they’d all been craving, Elden Ring players have all been basking in the warm glow of knowing that work on the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is definitely underway.
For those who aren’t busy doing detective work to try and unearth clues as to what the DLC might involve, now is the perfect time to undertake an intense training regimen that’ll refresh and hone your skills in time for the expansion’s arrival.
If you’re in need of a way to spice up your boss battle prep sessions and don’t fancy trying out a first-person viewpoint, coming up with a bizarre challenge run, or unleashing some Fortnite dances, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.
Fancy turning Elden Ring’s fog gates into terrifying portals to unknown destinations?
The mod in question is simply called ‘Elden Ring Fog Gate Randomizer’ and is the work of prolific modder Thefifthmatt. Some of their previous projects have completely randomised the fog gates of Dark Souls Remastered and Dark Souls 3, as well as all of Elden Ring’s weapons and enemies.
This time, at the request of streamer LilAggy, they’ve released the ideal mod to go alongside the latter of those prior works, creating a means for players to mix up the destinations of all of the fog gates that split up the game’s world, in addition to a number of other items and objects that can warp you somewhere else.
The mod currently comes with a couple of different ways for you to rearrange these portals, with the first simply shuffling the entire worldspace and the second excluding the open world to turn the game into a dungeon crawler, with both utilising a seed system to generate and catalogue each of their different iterations.
As you can see in the LilAggy stream of the mod above, these modes already provide the platform for plenty of interesting hijinks, though Thefifthmatt is already seemingly planning to add a couple of other options via future updates, one of which being a boss rush mode that’ll likely prove very popular.
They’ve also provided some help for players who’re struggling to acclimate themselves to the newly jumbled worldspace, both via a new in-game item dubbed the ‘Bell of Return’, which offers an escape back to the Chapel of Anticipation at any time and some detailed tips on the mod’s page that are definitely worth checking out.
