While they may not have any massive expansions to dig into quite yet, Elden Ring players are still keeping themselves busy, with the long-awaited Colosseum DLC providing a fresh challenge for many who now consider traditional boss battles to be old news.

That said, sometimes even the acts of butchering an endless supply of bloodthirsty fellow players or emulating streamer MissMikkaa’s run through the game on two devices at once can get stale if you’re using the same character build or rune combination you always end up going for.

If you’re in search of a way to spice up your next attempt to battle Malenia and Radahn simultaneously or slay an entire army of rats, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.

Feel like your next Elden Ring playthrough needs to be a bit more surreal?

The mod in question is called ‘Play As Maxwell The Cat’ and is the work of modder rainergeis. A lot of their previous work has been equally zany, having put all of the game’s text into the Comic Sans font and transformed Flying Dragon Agheel into Thomas the Tank Engine.

This time, for unknown reasons, they’ve decided to bring Maxwell The Cat, whom you might have seen spinning on YouTube or being carried around in Garry’s Mod, to The Lands Between as a playable character model.

To take on the form of the viral rotating feline, once you’ve installed the mod you’ll need to don the vanilla game’s Cloth Garb and Foot Soldier Greaves, at which point you should be greeted by the sight of your new small, but fearsome warrior.

Naturally, if you’re someone who likes things to be lore-friendly, this mod might not be for you, especially given that in-game Maxwell fights using weapons and spells that float in mid-air above its head.

However, if you’re the kind of person who might also enjoy some wacky dodge animations, it’ll probably be right up your alley.

If your only worry is that cute little Maxwell might struggle against Elden Ring’s biggest baddies, it might be worth providing him with some of the weaponry that’s served Skyrim’s Dragonborn so well over the years, something which a couple of other new mods might help with.

Both of these works, named ‘Skyrim Ebony Weapon Pack’ and ‘Skyrim Akaviri Blades Sword’, have been made by modder WrathfulMantis and should help your version of Maxwell fulfil their destiny.
