When they’re not re-housing a bunch of Institute scientists or fighting with their load orders, Fallout 4 players can often be found fighting their way through the many dangerous locales of The Commonwealth.
After all, the most lucrative quests always fall to the Sole Survivor because regular folks just don’t have the iron will or huge stimpak collection required to shoot or blast their way through areas filled with mutated creatures and bloodthirsty raiders on a daily basis.
If you’re a wasteland superhero who likes to mitigate the risks of your adventurous lifestyle by taking a stealthy or tactically-astute approach to clearing out enemy hordes, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.
Fancy deafening the denizens of Fallout 4’s Commonwealth with the droning warble of a thousand car alarms?
The mod in question is simply called ‘Car Alarm’ and is the work of modder Elzee. Some of their previous projects have given you the chance to be ripped to shreds by enemy hounds and restored some seemingly cut sound effects to the game.
This time, they’ve decided to focus in on the litany of derelict Atomic cars littering the streets, avenues and boulevards of post-apocalyptic Boston, providing these abandoned automobiles with an extra detail that builds on their potential as an explosive tool to take out careless foes.
As you can see in the showcase video below, with the mod installed, each of them is fitted with an alarm that can set off by a direct hit or nearby explosion, and will immediately begin to emit one of three distinct noises for around 30 seconds, though you can stop it early by destroying the vehicle in question.
Any blaring alarm will attract nearby enemies to investigate it, giving you the perfect chance to blow up the car in question, possibly taking out an entire group of ghouls or raiders in one fell swoop.
Elzee has also created patches for the mod that’ll help it work alongside other popular car-centric mods like sweddd’s ‘Lootable Cars And Trucks v2.0 all DLC’ and Quaz30’s ‘Vehicle Overhaul’, minimising its potential to set off conflict alarms in your mod management software of choice.
Regardless of whether your vault dweller has returned from their latest mission with plenty of loot and a ringing sound in their ears that they hope will dissipate soon, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas.
