When they’re not recovering from Christmas, playing post-apocalyptic dress-up, or desperately hunting for Nuka Cola, Fallout 4 players can often be found searching all of The Commonwealth’s nooks and crannies for hidden secrets.
After all, once you’ve shot and exploded your way through all of the game’s dungeons, decided the fate of its factions and taken trips to both Far Harbor and Nuka World, what else is there to do but try and unearth things you might have previously missed?
If your Sole Survivor often finds themselves disappointedly digging up nothing new when they head off on an expedition, a new mod might be worth adding to your load order.
Want to bring a bit of extra cold war flavour to your next Fallout 4 playthrough?
The mod in question is called ‘Chinese Remnants’ and is the work of modder SabutaiKhan. Most of their previous modding work has been focused on giving familiar enemies or factions, such as The Enclave and Fallout 3’s Talon Company some influence in The Commonwealth.
This time, they’ve decided to do the same with some ghoulified remnants of the pre-war Chinese army, which was deeply entrenched in warfare with US forces at the time Fallout’s version of America was devastated by nuclear armageddon.
With this mod installed, you’ll be able to find some more evidence of this conflict as you explore the wasteland, with five different underground bunkers now lurking below the soil at various locations throughout the base game’s map and those of its DLCs.
Linking these locations together are a couple of new quests, with the main one being initiated when you infiltrate a surveillance outpost near the Roadside Pines Motel and read a terminal entry.
This will eventually lead you to a main bunker complex, which looks like it’ll present a serious challenge, with SabutaiKhan recommending that you hit level 30 before trying to fight your way through it.
Regardless of whether your Sole Survivor is now disturbing some poor 200-year-old ghoul’s game of cards, make sure to follow us for more updates on interesting mods like this one for Fallout, Skyrim, and Cyberpunk 2077. You can also check out our mods of the month for December 2022.
